A Masters graduate has turned down take a £100,000 job in the City in order to become a qualified plasterer.

Gemma McCoyd recently achieved first-class Masters degree in maths, but has decided her true passion lies in plastering.

The 24-year-old was offered an actuarial job in a top London firm, but has instead chosen to live on less than £6,000 a year while completing an advanced plastering course.

She told The Sun: "Some people say I'm crazy but I have to do what I love or I'll always regret it. I didn't want to sit in an office bored out of my mind. This is what I'm passionate about."

She added that she has now become the best plasterer in her class of 30, not to mention the only female. She plans to specialise in restoration once she’s completed her course.

“It would be amazing to specialise in the fancy stuff, because that's what I seem to have a knack for,” she said.
