A Series of Coincidences
I know it's only been a couple of days since my last posting, but I thought I'd fill you in on a funny thing that happened a few weeks ago...
I was out with friends in Sheffield celebrating a friend's birthday and noticed a guy in the bar where we were drinking. He looked familiar- he worked in the university coffee shop and I'd also seen him in the journalism department a few times. I assumed that he must be a postgrad or something, because I hadn't noticed him last year. And I definitely would have, because this guy hadn't exactly fallen out of the ugly tree. My best friend at uni vaguely knew him to say 'hi' to and told me he was German. So when he ended up at the same club night that we were at, I decided to go say hi.
In theory, this should've been a great idea, except I decided to do this after I'd had quite a few Snakebites. I can't really remember what happened, except I woke up the next morning with his email address in my phone, and a vague memory of him telling me he had just finished his final year of a journalism and Spanish degree and was from Dresden. It was probably the best thing to happen to me all year. They say fate works in mysterious ways...
So I decided to send him an email, apologising for... actually I don't know what for, because I have no recollection of that night. So I figured apologising for being drunk would be my safest bet. So that's what I did, crossing my fingers as I pressed 'send' that I hadn't disgraced myself.
I don't think I did, because he replied pretty quickly. He explained that he's currently in South America and wouldn't be back until later in the year, but if he wasn't in Dresden when I visited in August, he would put me in touch with some of his friends who would show me around instead. I thought that was a really nice thing to do, especially as he doesn't really know me, except maybe as the girl who always orders hot chocolate from the uni coffee shop.
We've just been chatting about lots of stuff, though we're not in regular contact because of him being somewhere in South America. But I'm sure we will be seeing each other in the near future. Needless to say, I'm now looking forward to my year abroad even more. And the best thing? My friends are REALLY jealous...
Ahh-- so good you can
Ahh-- so good you can anticipate some spice in your life! Maybe and excuse to go to South America?!!! ;-)
